Leveling up: Star Trek Online is different from other MMOs because you can’t just level up one way. It takes a combination of grade, skill and rank points to level up. You will start the game as a Lieutenant which is the first rank. As you continuing playing your rank will remain the same but your grade will change. Once you reach Lieutenant rank 10, you will then go on to Lieutenant Commander. Keep in mind that you will also have to spend your skill points in order to level up. At first skill points will only cost 100 points but as you continue playing, the skill points will increase to 200, 900 and 1800. There are a total of 10 levels for each rank, and a total of 6 ranks which you can be promoted to. Completing missions will help you advance in rank as well as earn you new components to your ship and eventually you will be awarded a new ship to use. The game has a total of 50 levels per character.

Skills: Your character will start with having a wide variety of skill points spread up among different skills. When you start leveling up you should allocate your skill points to specific areas. Using your skill points will help you gain levels. Skills can also be gained by playing PvP, however it’s faster to gain skills by completing missions.
